Research cutoff: September 13, 2026. Dollar amounts are USD per common share unless stated otherwise. This guide separates declared payments, calculations and unannounced future decisions.
Caterpillar increased its quarterly common dividend to $1.63, payable August 19, 2026. The prior verified rate was $1.51. Four unchanged new-rate payments would total $6.52 in a 2027 scenario, not a guaranteed annual distribution.
Verified old-rate and new-rate payments
The December 2025 declaration supplies the February 2026 payment, while the June 10 increase supplies August’s payment. These two selected events illustrate the rate change; this table is not Caterpillar’s complete calendar-2026 payment history.

| Record date | Payable date | Per share |
|---|---|---|
| January 20, 2026 | February 19, 2026 | $1.51 |
| July 20, 2026 | August 19, 2026 | $1.63 |
The increase is twelve cents, approximately 7.95% before rounding; the company calls it 8%. For 100 eligible shares it adds $12 per qualifying quarter. Both payable dates are earlier than the research cutoff. Multiplying the new rate by four does not reconstruct a calendar year that included earlier, lower payments.
Caterpillar dividend scenarios for calendar 2027
On a small screen, swipe the table horizontally. Keyboard users can focus the table region and use the arrow keys.
| Assumed payments | Annual per share | 100 eligible shares |
|---|---|---|
| Four × $1.63 | $6.52 | $652 |
| Two × $1.63 plus two × hypothetical $1.75 | $6.76 | $676 |
| Four × hypothetical $1.50 | $6.00 | $600 |
The alternative rates are scenario inputs with no assigned probabilities. A hypothetical raise only for the final payment would produce $6.64 instead of $6.76. Actual payment frequency, timing and amounts need future declarations. No 2027 entitlement dates are invented here.
Why industrial and financing cash should be separated
Our Caterpillar framework distinguishes the equipment businesses from financial services. Financing receivables, borrowings and customer credit exposures make a consolidated cash-flow total harder to interpret as money freely available for dividends. Use the company’s definitions and reconciliations when evaluating industrial cash measures rather than mixing unlike figures.
The June release discusses returning Machinery, Power & Energy free cash flow over time through dividends and repurchases. The phrase over time matters: it is a capital-allocation approach, not a requirement to distribute every quarter’s cash immediately or through dividends alone. A buyback is a different mechanism from the declared $1.63 cash payment.
Demand, dealers and the dividend outlook
Review construction, resource and power-related demand separately. Orders, dealer inventory and end-user demand can move at different times. Revenue recognized when equipment enters a channel does not automatically prove that underlying customer demand has strengthened by the same amount. Look for consistency among sales, inventory and cash collection.
Commodity investment, infrastructure spending and customer financing conditions can influence equipment purchases. A strong backlog may support visibility, but production costs, delivery timing and cancellation risk still matter. Test dividend coverage under less favorable demand and margin assumptions, not only under the latest favorable quarter.
Capital expenditure, working capital and debt commitments compete for cash. An inventory reduction can temporarily improve cash flow while signaling slower future production. Interpret that movement alongside operations before declaring the payout unusually safe. A history of annual increases is useful context, not a guarantee against a change in policy.
Caterpillar stock splits and bonus-share claims
The reviewed notices announce cash dividends, not a new 2026 or 2027 share split. This guide verifies no new ratio or stock-distribution date. A split rumor should not be inserted into an income calendar. Confirmation would require a separate dated company announcement defining the action and its terms.
After a hypothetical 2-for-1 split, 40 shares become 80 while the theoretical price halves. The business interest is unchanged. Old price targets, earnings and dividend rates must be adjusted consistently before comparison. A share-count change is not itself a profit or a spendable cash distribution.
An illustrative yield check
At a hypothetical $500 share price, the $6.52 unchanged-rate scenario implies approximately 1.30% yield. This is not a current quote or a fair-value conclusion. Industrial-cycle and valuation risk can dominate the annual cash received, so dividend research should remain part of a broader total-return assessment.
